You will need:

Dry Pasta (Wagon Wheels are great for all kinds of projects)
Food Coloring
Rubbing Alcohol
Ziploc Bags (Not the cheap kind for this!)
Paper Towels
A Pan or Tray

You will do:
Put desired amount of pasta into a Ziploc Bag.
Add 1/8 cup of Rubbing Alcohol to bag for every 1/2 cup of pasta.
Add desired amount of food coloring.
Shake the bag around until pasta is colored evenly.

Once your pasta has been dyed to desired color, drain the bags in the sink and dump the pasta onto a paper towel covered pan or tray to dry. (Takes about 2 hours to dry)

Miss Morgan's Notes:
*I LOVE this recipe for pasta dyeing. I have dyed loads of pasta in my day, but have always used a water and food coloring recipe. Then, one day I discovered that you could use rubbing alcohol instead of water and BOOM, the activity was no longer so stressful. The rubbing alcohol keeps the pasta from getting soggy. Genius! When using water, you have to be quick to get the pasta dyed and dried. But, with rubbing alcohol? No worries. We took our time shaking and dyeing. Then, I simply took the bags and plopped them into the window sill until class was over. After class, I took the pasta out of the bags to dry. We used our pasta for {this} project.
*The red and blue pasta require almost double the amount of food coloring as other colors.
*Even though the bags are sealed, do not turn them upside down while shaking.
They can and probably will, leak.
*Be sure to discuss the proper safety precautions which are required when using rubbing alcohol with your students. Be sure that you as the parent or teacher are the one to handle the rubbing alcohol.
